Some more excuses to eat chocolates...

“Chocolate is divine”, yes it is for many of us isn’t it? Well, not everyone likes the same foods, but when it comes to eating chocolates there can be no argument. Whether it’s a bar of dark chocolate or the smooth velvety truffles, the sweet cocoa delight is worthy of the most discriminating palate :-) But it's more than wishful thinking — chocolate can be good for you too...

Studies show that eating chocolate, primarily dark chocolate, may contribute to improved cardiovascular health. Chocolate, particularly of the dark variety, contains natural compounds called flavoniods known for their special health benefits. Research has shown that flavoniods help the blood vessels to widen. They reduce the stickiness of platelets, cells that play an important role in blood clotting. This promotes artery health and reduces inflammation, which is responsible for a healthy heart.

Packed with natural antioxidants, dark chocolate and cocoa sit in the same good-for-you category as green tea and blueberries. That's because chocolate comes from cocoa beans, which grow on the cocoa tree and are full of natural plant nutrients. Most of the studies to date highlight dark chocolate's health values because it has the highest percentage of cocoa solids, therefore more flavanol antioxidants. Despite its sweet reputation, dark chocolate has a low glycemic index similar to that of oatmeal — meaning it does not send your blood sugar spiking. What say ready to grab a dark chocolate bar for yourself, after all its weekend too :-)

  2. Great article! Dark chocolate in moderation has many other health benefits as well, including improved blood circulation, lowered blood pressure, lowered cholesterol, protection from cancer, improved brain function, protection against tooth decay, improved post-workout muscle recovery, and skin damage protection. These benefits are attributable to the high concentration of antioxidants in dark chocolate.
